What is PBIS? Positive Behaviors Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a proactive discipline system. It aims to reduce disciplinary office actions. It also provides a framework to improve the overall school environment with positive behaviors to increase academic success. PBIS, defines teaches behavior expectations, and supports appropriate student behavior. The goal is for students to recognize and practice the four expected behaviors (Respect, Ownership, Attitude and Responsibility).
How can I help my child or the school supporting PBIS? Parents are an important part of PBIS implementation. We encourage parents to use the same expectations that the school teaches. This common language creates consistency and unified support for expected student behavior. You can help by doing the following:
Review the ROAR School-wide Expectations with your child
Keep in touch with your child's teacher
Encourage your child to use appropriate language
Practice phrases with your child such as "Thank you," "Excuse me," "Please," and "I'm sorry."
Be involve in your child's class, volunteer, attend parent meetings and parenting workshops
Model appropriate behavior at home
